Our Tadpole class introduces young paddlers to the exciting world of kayaking in a fun, safe, and supportive environment. Designed specifically for children ages 6 to 8, this course focuses on the very basics: wet exits, elementary river safety, boat control, and beginner paddling skills. Safety is our top priority at 4Corners, and in this class, we place special emphasis on keeping kids comfortable, confident, and smiling.
The class kicks off with a meet-and-greet for kids, parents, and instructors. This is a chance for everyone to get acquainted, discuss any prior on-water experience, and learn what each child hopes to achieve. Afterward, we’ll help each paddler get fitted with the right boat and gear before heading to our solar-heated pool for their first big milestone: learning how to wet exit in a warm, controlled setting.
Over the course of the program, we’ll spend time at Lake Nighthorse or on the Oxbow stretch of the Animas River to develop proper paddling technique, practice boat control, and play confidence-building games designed to make kayaking feel natural and fun.
By the end of the class, our goal is for each child to understand the fundamentals of kayaking and leave with a newfound excitement for being on the water!
This class includes all gear, transportation, and instructors.

Cancellation Policy
The Southwest can have very sudden and unpredictable changes in weather. All classes run rain or shine, unless there are weather related safety concerns. All programs may be changed at our discretion. To keep our classes affordable, we must fill a program with a minimum amount of participants. We reserve the right to cancel the program if the minimum amount of participants is not met. A full refund will be provided if a class is cancelled, and you will be notified no later than 48 hours before the beginning of the class.
If you need to reschedule or cancel your reservation, please do so 48 hours or more before the beginning of the class. Cancellations within 48 hours of the beginning of the program are non- refundable. If you wish to reschedule within 48 hours before the beginning of the program, we can provide a 50% credit towards the rescheduled class.
